About

Zaira Guerra PG Dip, MBACP

I am a counsellor with over 12 years of experience working for mental health charities and in private practice. I provide in person and online therapy to adult individuals and couples.

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy from York St John University, 2014.

I believe in integrating different therapeutic approaches to create a personalised journey focused on your needs and values. I am passionate about learning and growth, both personally and professionally.  I adhere to the requirement for the counselling profession by attending continuous professional development trainings.

Furthermore, I have taken specialised studies in relationship work, trauma, attachment and boarding school syndrome.

  • I am committed to creating a safe and inclusive space for people from all walks of life, regardless of age, nationality, culture, religion, abilities or sexual orientation. I continue learning in this area and I actively aim to understand my own biases and welcome opportunities for deeper understanding.

Our upbringing and cultural background significantly shape who we are. Relocating from another country has provided me with the opportunity to step back from my own culture and select elements from both cultures that align with my personal values. It has enabled me to appreciate the benefits, challenges and insights that come from my own experience, and how it impacts my sense of self and belonging. This understanding allows me to better support clients navigating cultural shifts, family dynamics, and identity exploration.

  • My work with charities and schools has equipped me to handle a wide range of challenges. I have provided counselling to older students, play therapy to children, and support to parents and adults facing various difficulties. These experiences have allowed me to work with a diverse range of issues such as anxiety, depression, neglect, addiction, low self-esteem, trauma, sexual abuse, bereavement, isolation and attachment difficulties. I continue to be involved in the charity sector, currently serving as a trustee for a mental health charity.

  • Nature is my sanctuary. I find deep peace and renewal cultivating flowers and vegetables. This connection inspires my approach to counselling – nurturing your growth, even when faced with challenges.

Just like in my garden, some seedlings struggle due to lack of water, too much sun, or competition. But with extra care, they can still blossom beautifully. This reflects my belief that everyone deserves support, and with care, we can all reach our full potential.
